From Both Airports to Every Hotel District

Two public systems leave the airport: the M11 metro to Gayrettepe, running roughly 30 to 40 minutes for the full leg, and Havaist airport coaches to points across the city, with departures about every 30 minutes on main lines around the clock. To Sultanahmet or Sirkeci

1. Take the Havaist coach toward Sultanahmet-Beyazit (the Old City line); the operator quotes around 75 to 90 minutes depending on traffic.
2. Alight at the Beyazit stop and ride the T1 tram two to four stops east, Sultanahmet stop for upper Sultanahmet, Sirkeci stop for the station quarter, or walk 15 to 20 minutes.
3. Rail alternative: M11 metro to Gayrettepe, M2 metro south to Vezneciler, then T1 tram or a 15-minute walk; budget about 90 minutes door to door.

To Beyoglu and Taksim

1. Take the Havaist coach marked Taksim; the run takes roughly 90 minutes in normal traffic and arrives beside Taksim Square.
2. Rail alternative, usually faster off-peak: M11 metro to Gayrettepe, transfer to the M2 southbound, three stops to Taksim; about 60 to 75 minutes including the transfer walk.
3. For Galata and Karakoy hotels, continue from Taksim one funicular ride down toward the tram at Kabatas, or take a short taxi downhill.

To Besiktas or Sisli

1. Take the M11 metro to its Gayrettepe terminus, the leg the operator lists at roughly 30 to 40 minutes.
2. For Sisli hotels: transfer to the M2 and ride one or two stops south to Sisli-Mecidiyekoy or Osmanbey.
3. For the Besiktas shore: take a 10 to 15 minute taxi downhill from Gayrettepe to Dolmabahce and the waterfront hotels.

To Kadikoy

1. Take the M11 to Gayrettepe, the M2 south to Yenikapi, then Marmaray east under the Bosphorus to Ayrilik Cesmesi; allow around two hours in total.
2. With luggage, a direct private transfer or taxi is the honest recommendation for this cross-city pair; see the note below.

SAW's rail link is the M4 metro, whose terminal station sits under the airport; the full line to Kadikoy takes 52 minutes per the operator's page at Metro Istanbul. Coach and bus options are listed on the airport's transport pages at sabihagokcen.aero.

To Kadikoy

1. Take the M4 from the airport station direct to Kadikoy, about 50 minutes with no transfer; trains run from early morning to around midnight.

To Sultanahmet or Sirkeci

1. Take the M4 toward Kadikoy and alight at Ayrilik Cesmesi.
2. Transfer across the platform area to Marmaray westbound and ride under the Bosphorus to Sirkeci station.
3. Exit at Sirkeci for the station quarter, or ride the T1 tram one stop, or walk uphill 10 to 15 minutes, for Sultanahmet. Total from the airport: roughly 75 to 90 minutes.

To Taksim, Besiktas or Sisli

1. Follow the M4 plus Marmaray route above as far as Sirkeci, then T1 tram to Kabatas and the F1 funicular up to Taksim; allow around 90 to 105 minutes.
2. For Besiktas, leave Marmaray at Uskudar instead and cross by city ferry to Besiktas pier when sailings suit; otherwise continue via Sirkeci.
3. For Sisli, continue on Marmaray to Yenikapi and take the M2 north; this is the longest standard pair, so weigh a direct transfer.

Metered taxis wait at both airports; the IST to Sultanahmet run of 49 km takes from about 45 minutes with clear roads to well over an hour in traffic.
